I went for a walk on a hot summer evening to see hotels near Tallinn train station.
Main train station in Tallinn is called "Balti Jaam". Staying near it also means being close to ever so hip (and somewhat overpriced?) Telliskivi area, Kalamaja district and Tallinn Old Town.
From there public transportation to harbour, bus station and airport takes maximum 25 minutes and taxi is faster of course.

A 4 star boutique hotel with day spa. And it's located just 10 minute walk from train station along Toompuiestee street. Closest point in Tallinn Old Town is Tall Hermann tower, just a minute away.

Just 8 or 9 minute walk from train station is another 4 star hotel.

As the name, spa hotel suggests, hotel has excellent spa with several saunas.
Near the hotels are two very good restaurants
Towards train station and just behind the hotel is Café Ginger, which offers very fairly priced Indian and Thai food.
Across the road from hotels is restaurant Pööbel with wi(...iiiiii...)de draft beer selection and Estonian meals.
Hektor container hotel in Telliskivi
About 3 minutes from train station towards Telliskivi is one of the funkiest new hotels in Tallinn, container hotel.

This is ran by Hektorstay, who first became known for their excellent and one-of-a-kind design hostel in Tartu.

Price wise this hotel is the most affordable on all mentioned. This is as close to the trains as it can get, without sleeping in one overnight.
Higher rooms have view to The Old Town which is very nice during sunset.
When you're planning a train trip on the next day then it'll be good to stay close to the train station. Can sleep a bit more in the morning, grab a coffee from one of many spots in train station and be ready for upcoming train ride.
"Balti Jaam" train station is a compact one. It only takes a few minutes to walk from one end to the other.
