So, what do you think of free walking tours? Are they worth going to? Here’s my perspective.
I think guided walking tours are one of the best things to do when in a new city. Knowledgeable guides will show you around the city. In just two or three hours they’ll show you main sights in the area and tell you about the history.
Are free walking tours really free?
It would be better to say “tip based tours”, as visitors are expected to tip at the end of the tour according to their experience. But saying free walking tour sounds so much better, doesn’t it?
How much to tip at the end of the tour?
That doesn’t have a definite answer – tip what do you think is fair.
After all, the guide has shown you the area for two or three hours. That will most likely save you hours of wandering about. Getting to know the area quickly will definitely help to make the most of weekend vacations.
It's worth knowing that sometimes guides have to pay for listing their tour online beforehand.
